This week's edition of Where Did It Come From? focuses on the best thing to ever come from peach baskets (besides peaches), and the only sport where men with pituitary disorders are praised like gods. We're talking, of course, about BASKETBALL.

The winter of 1891 found gym teacher Dr. James Naismith with a wealth of problems. His best monocle had broke in a freak snow shoveling accident, a drunken trip to the market had left him with a stunning excess of peaches and on top of that, his students at the YMCA were getting crazy fat due to winter laziness. Days passed as he sat, monocle-less, staring at his chubby students. They would spend the entire day lying on the gym floor, moving just enough to eat handfuls of salt water taffy (the turn of the century's equivalent to Facebook). After a few weeks, the pressure finally got to Naismith. In a peach-induced rage he flipped over furniture and sent medicine balls flying across the room. He smashed a phrenology head and broke one of those bikes with the huge front tires. Spinning around the room, looking for the next thing to smash, Naismith's eye landed on a stacked pile of empty peach baskets. "Those infernal baskets!" he screamed. "May the good lord send them back to whence they came!" With that he picked up a soccer ball and threw it at the baskets. To his surprise, the ball didn't slam into the baskets. Instead, it landed inside one of them. Even more to his surprise - he liked it. He liked it a lot. He grabbed another ball and shot at the baskets. Naismith thought, "This'll get those fat @#$%& moving!" And it did. By next winter his student were off the taffy, and hard at work creating most of the phrases ever used on And-1 shirts.

....And that's how basketball was invented. A crazy gym teacher got drunk, ate too many peaches and trashed his office.

Simple.
