Duathlon
"A slightly less-iron, Iron Man."
Duathlon is an individual sport that consists of a running leg and a cycling leg, followed by another running leg. Duathlon is closely related to triathlon, with the exception of a swimming leg. Overview Running. Cycling. Running. Such is duathlon, the buttoned-down cousin of triathlon. Held in multiple cities and countries throughout the world, duathlon rigorously tests an athlete's speed, strength and endurance. Rules of Duathlon In order to keep the course relatively clear, racers begin in waves. All racers must start in the wave they've been assigned to. The course must be completed in its entirety, including entering and exiting transition areas at the proper place. While on a bike, racers must wear a helmet. Those who remove their helmets are disqualified. Drafting on a bike is also strictly prohibited. Three bike lengths is the proper distance to keep at all times. History of Duathlon Duathlons were first run in the 1960's and 1970's in the United States. The sport reached an apex of popularity in the 1980's, when thousands would participate in a single race. As triathlons and the Iron Man competition exploded in popularity in the 1990's, duathlon began to fade. Today the sport still draws participants, who are looking for competition, but don't want to engage in any type of swimming.
