Korfball is a mixed-gender team sport where players attack and defend baskets placed on large posts on opposite ends of a halved court. Points are scored when a player shoots a ball through the opposing team's basket.

Korfball is a sport of Dutch invention, now played around the world. What distinguishes Korfball from other sports is the co-ed nature of the game. Teams of 4 men and 4 women attempt to score goals by shooting a ball through a basket. The ball is advanced around the court strictly by passing. The team with the most goals at the end of the game is the winner.

Korfball is played on an indoor or outdoor court divided into halves called zones. In each zone there is a 3.5-meter post with a basket on top. The ball used in korfball is similar to a soccer ball, but with more grip and bounce. Games consist of two 30-minute halves. Teams are always co-ed, and consist of 4 men and 4 women. Players can only guard a player of the same gender. Blocking, tackling and holding are not allowed. The ball is moved strictly through passing. Running with the ball is illegal. Goals are scored by throwing the ball through the opposing team's basket. After two goals have been scored by the same team, teams change zones and attacks become defenders. The team with the most goals at the end of the game is the winner.

Korfball derives from a Swedish game called ring boll. In 1902, a Dutch schoolteacher began changing the rules to create his own game. The new game, korfball, eventually became popular throughout the Netherlands. After being demonstrated at the 1920 and 1928 Summer Olympic Games, the International Korfball Federation was formed 1933. World championships have been held since 1978. Today, korfball is played competitively and recreationally in Europe, India and Taiwan.

Korfball is considered a safe sport due to a lack of contact between players. This lack of contact is strictly enforced due to the co-ed nature of the game.

Korfball requires players to possess excellent shooting accuracy, teamwork and passing abilities. These skills can be learned and improved through practice, and experience playing basketball and netball.
