History of Mountain Bicycling
Mountain biking began in the United States in the 1970's, when riders began outfitting their bikes with specialized parts that could handle the rigors of off-road riding. By the early 1980's these unique bikes were being mass-produced. This helped to spread the sport throughout the United States, and eventually the rest of the world. In 1988, the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame opened in Crested Butte, Colorado.
