Pogo
"Sad? Pogo!"
Pogo is an individual activity where participants bounce on a stick, outfitted with a spring on one end. Overview Pogo is the activity of riding a pogo stick. Users activate a large spring with their feet while shifting their body weight to steer. Invented in the early 20th century, the pogo stick has been steadily improved by new technology. Today pogo is undergoing a renaissance due to a new level of ease involved with pogo stick operation. Goal of Pogo Control a spring-mounted stick for recreational purposes. Rules of Pogo Users place their feet on a footpad located at the bottom end of the stick. While balancing on the pole, users jump or press down on the footpads to compress the spring. Once the spring has been compressed, the user's weight is lifted. The spring's recall then propels the user into the air. The stick can be steered by shifting one's weight in the appropriate direction. History of Pogo The first pogo sticks were made in 1919. Constructed primarily of wood, they were brittle and easily warped. Once the design was changed to include a metal shaft, the popularity of the pogo stick increased. In 1947 a new steel pogo stick was invented, featuring a longer-lasting spring. The popularity of pogo steadily declined throughout the 20th century. It has recently undergone a renaissance of sorts due to design improvements that have allowed for easier, more stable use. Pogo Equipment Helmet Padding Pogo Stick Pogo Safety Pogo is a relatively safe sport. Injuries are usually limited to minor scrapes and bruises.
