Racketlon
"To determine the King of the Racquet Universe!"
Racketlon
Racketlon is a sport where competitors compete in four racket/paddle-based games: table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis.
Overview
Racketlon is a competition of four major racquet sports. Included in the program is tennis, badminton, squash and table tennis. Using the international rules of each individual sport, opposing players or teams attempt to score 21 points. Points are won by winning rallies. The player or team with the most cumulative points at the end of the competition is the winner.
Goal of Racketlon
Score points by winning more rallies than the opposition.
Rules of Racketlon
Matches always include tennis, badminton, squash and table tennis. Events are ordered within a match from smaller to larger rackets (table tennis, badminton, squash then tennis). All events must be played between the same individuals or pair, with identical amounts of sets played in each event. Rules for each respective event are identical to those used in international competition. Each rally results in a point scored. No matter the event, games are played to 21 points and must be won by 2. At the end of all events, the individual or pair with the most cumulative points scored throughout the match is declared the winner.
History of Racketlon
Racketlon began in Finland in the 1980's, when four people representing each of the four racquet federations established a game involving each of their respective sports. This new game, called "mailapelit" held its first Finnish championships in 1986. Rules were altered in 1994, to adopt the current standardized scoring system of 21 points. The first international racketlon tournament was held in 2001. A world tour was established in 2003. Today racketlon is a popular sport, especially in Scandinavia.

Racketlon Safety
Most injuries in racketlon are limited to muscle strains and pulls. Occasionally more serious injuries can occur, involving the knees, shoulders and elbows.
Racketlon Training
Because of racketlon's cumulative scoring format, athletes must be highly proficient in all four racquet sports. These sports call for a similar skill set, involving quick feet and legs and good hand-eye coordination. It's best to master all four sports before competing in racketlon.
Racketlon Terminology
Ace - a service the opposing player is unable to return

Deuce - a score of 40-40

Rally - an extended exchange of strokes between players

Shuttlecock - a cork to which feathers are attached to form a cone shape, struck with rackets in badminton

Smash - type of shot characterized by a large backswing and rapid acceleration designed to impart as much speed as possible on the ball; usually executed when an opponent has returned a ball that bounces too high and/or too close to the net
