Toboggan
Toboggan
"Way more fun than falling down a hill."
Toboggan
Toboggan is an outdoor activity where one or more individuals ride downhill on a simple sled. Toboggans differ from most sleds in that they rest directly on the snow with no runners or skis.
Overview
Toboggan is an outdoor activity where individuals ride a simple sled on snow down a hill or other slope. They differ from other sleds in that they do not use runners or skis and instead rest directly on the snow. Traditional toboggans are made of bound wooden slats curved at the front to form a sideways “J” shape. Modern recreational toboggans are constructed of either wood or aluminum, while more rugged models, mainly used in transport and rescue, are made of fiberglass. Some toboggans used by ski patrols are outfitted with handles that extend from the front.
Goal of Toboggan
To ride a toboggan down a snowy hill or slope.
History of Toboggan
The toboggan was a traditional form of transport for the Innu and Cree of Northern Canada. Now toboggans are used by most ski patrol to transport patients.
