Top Rope Rock Climbing
"Just call it TRRC. It's the cool way of saying it." Top Rope Rock Climbing is an individual sport that involves suspending a rope from an anchor located at the top of a short climb. The climber ties into one end of the rope and is belayed by his belayer who manages the other end of the rope. Overview Top rope rock climbing, also referred to as top roping, is a style of climbing involving a rope running from a belayer at the bottom of the climbing route up to an anchor at the top of the rock and back down to the climber. This style of climbing is seen as a safer form because climbers will generally only fall a few feet allowing them to attempt more difficult routes. This style is the one most often used in indoor rock climbing facilities. Goal of Top Rope Rock Climbing To use a system of ropes and anchors to climb to the top of a rock. Top Rope Rock Climbing Equipment Anchor Carabiners Low-Stretch Rope Low-Stretch Sling Top Rope Rock Climbing Safety Top rope rock climbing is deemed less dangerous than other forms of rock climbing. Assuming the anchors hold and the belayer is paying attention to the climb, climbers can generally only fall a few short feet on any bottom-to-top route. When setting the system up, it is important to keep contact between rope and rock to a minimum to avoid damaging the rope. Top Rope Rock Climbing Training This style of rock climbing is generally an easier way for novice climbers to experience the sport because of the higher level of safety. Unlike traditional climbing, novice climbers do not have to install their own protective devices on their way up the rock which makes it psychologically easier to climb.
