Tournament Paintball is a competition form of speed paintball.

The goal of tournament paintball is to defeat the opposing teams until reaching the end of the tournament.

There are various type of tournament rules and regulations for speedball, ranging from the number of players (7 vs. 7, 5 vs. 5, etc.) to time limits.

Tournament paintball began with regional tournaments held at the National Survival Game in 1983, culminating with the National Survival Game National Championship.

Paintball gun speeds should be kept lower than 300 fps (feet per second). A protective mask should always be worn; however, if masks are not used, then barrel plugs should be used. It is also customary to allow for surrenders when two players are within twenty feet of each other.

Training for tournament paintball is similar to training used in speed ball. Being able to fire off a short accurate burst of paintballs in a short amount of time is important because it limits the amount of time a player is exposed; this technique, called snap shooting, is an important skill to develop. Tucking, being able to completely shield the body from an opponent, is also an important skill to have. Tucking and snap shooting combine to form the basic set of skills necessary for tournament play. Conditioning to improve speed and endurance is also important.
