A protective mask should always be worn; however, if masks are not used, then barrel plugs should be used. It is also customary to allow for surrenders when two players are within twenty feet of each other. Tournament Paintball Training Training for tournament paintball is similar to training used in speed ball. Being able to fire off a short accurate burst of paintballs in a short amount of time is important because it limits the amount of time a player is exposed; this technique, called snap shooting, is an important skill to develop. Tucking, being able to completely shield the body from an opponent, is also an important skill to have. Tucking and snap shooting combine to form the basic set of skills necessary for tournament play. Conditioning to improve speed and endurance is also important.
