"The Dr. Dre of rock climbing."
Traditional Rock Climbing
Traditional Rock Climbing is an individual sport where climbers place their own protection bolts and lines rather than clipping pre-placed bolts for security. It is closest to the original form of rock climbing.
Overview
Traditional climbing is a type of rock climbing that emphasizes the skills necessary for establishing an exploratory route. The climbing leader climbs a section of rock and attaches protective devices along the way; these protective devices are in place to catch the climber in event of a fall. Much like free climbing, climbers are responsible for making upward progress.

Goal of Traditional Rock Climbing
The goal of traditional rock climbing is to climb a section of rock while having a minimal impact on the rock itself.
Rules of Traditional Rock Climbing
One ethical rule of traditional rock climbing is not to use permanent anchors and protective devices. These permanent devices are drilled in and can damage the rock face. After a leader has reached the top of the rock and installed the anchor, the second climber climbs the rock and removes all of the protective devices along the way.
