Water Volleyball
Water Volleyball is a form of volleyball played in shallow swimming pools. Team sizes and pool size can vary, as Water Volleyball remains a casual game.
Overview
Water volleyball is a recreational and casual form of volleyball played in a pool. Participants follow the general rules of volleyball, however, pool size and number of players per team can vary.
Goal of Water Volleyball
In water volleyball, the goal is to defeat the opposing team by being the first to reach a predetermined score.
Rules of Water Volleyball
Game play follows the general rules of traditional volleyball. A player on one team serves the ball over the net to the opposing team; the serve must be within the confines of the opposing team's side of the pool. The opposing team must then use no more than three hits to get the ball back across the net towards the other team. This back and forth continues until the ball hits the pool, goes out of play, is hit into the net, or an error is made. When the ball contacts the floor within the pool or an error is made, the team that did not make the error is awarded a point, whether they served the ball or not. The team that won the point serves for the next point. Play continues until one team reaches the predetermined amount of points; although in traditional volleyball a team must win by a margin of two points or more.
History of Water Volleyball
Traditional volleyball was created in 1895 by a YMCA instructor in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The game gained popularity and eventually took on several forms including water volleyball.

Water Volleyball Training
There is no standardized training for water volleyball since it is mainly a casual form of volleyball; however, some of the same skills are involved, such as being able to hit the ball over the net. Also, because the game is played in the water, players, at least the ones in the deep end, should be able to swim.
