Participate in a mountaineering adventure while raising money for Big City Mountaineers, a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the lives of under-resourced urban teens through transformative outdoor experiences:
Gannett Peak, the highest in Wyoming, is located on the Continental Divide deep in the Wind River Mountains. The glacier-clad 13,804 foot summit is many miles from the nearest road; climbing it is one of America's premier wilderness mountaineering trips. Reaching Gannett Peak requires a two-day approach through one of the most beautiful areas in the Wind River Range. Horses carry in the majority of the equipment (while your team hikes with light packs) 13 miles to our first camp near Island Lake. On day two we hike to the head of Titcomb Basin, a spectacular glacial valley lined with granite spires. The third day is a long summit day, starting well before dawn. We travel over Bonney Pass, over glaciers, moraines, and finally onto the upper mountain. We ascend the peak via one of two routes- the Gooseneck Route or the South Couloir, depending on conditions. Both routes involve steep snow climbing requiring ropes. Atop Gannett, the view of the Wind River Range is breathtaking. |
