Bicycling weekend in Williamsburg - Williamsburg, VA - PPTC Williamsburg weekend. Join the Potomac Pedalers Touring Club (PPTC) annual weekend of great cycling in historic Williamsburg, Virginia. We have scheduled this trip early in the season to avoid the hordes of tourists and the heat. Our accommodations will be at the Patrick Henry Inn, located in the heart of Williamsburg. The hotel is across the street from Colonial Williamsburg; after cycling, walk over and explore the world’s largest living history museum with hundreds of restored, reconstructed and historically furnished buildings and with costumed interpreters telling the stories of the men and women of the 18th century city. The Williamsburg area features some of the most historic areas in the country. Ride to Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America. Visit Yorktown, known as the place where Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington. Take the ferry across James River and ride the gently rolling countryside of Surry County. Or visit the nearby ever-popular Busch Gardens theme park. And the cycling? Beautiful scenery, flat terrain, historic sites and lots of fresh air. Tandems and recumbents will also appreciate the gentle terrain accompanied by rural scenery. The ride selection is being improved again this year, based on feedback from previous participants and on recommendations from the local Williamsburg Area Bicyclists. This year there will be a selection of bicycling routes from 16 miles to 65 miles, mostly avoiding the Colonial Parkway. Also by popular demand, we will once again include joint rides and a Saturday picnic lunch hosted by the Williamsburg club, giving members a chance to meet fellow cyclists in the Williamsburg area. Enjoy a social on Friday night, buffet breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday morning, a pre-dinner social/happy hour and a buffet dinner on Saturday night. Weekend cost: • Double occupancy - $195 per person • Triple occupancy - $170 per person • Single occupancy - $275 per person • No lodging; meals and cue sheets - $95 per person • Non PPTC members add $20, or join the club for $30 individual/$35 per family Prices include: • 2 nights lodging • Friday evening social • Buffet breakfasts Saturday and Sunday morning • Lunch on Saturday – hosted by the Williamsburg Bike Club • Joint rides with the Williamsburg Bike Club • Saturday pre-dinner social/happy hour • Buffet dinner Saturday night • Snacks for the Sunday ride • Map packets and cue sheets Registrations must be received no later than May 13, 2009, or be placed on a waiting list after May 13, 2009 subject to room availability.
